Behind pressure of World Bank PM Baburam
Bhattari is putting pressure to the secretary of ministry of energy Herara
Koirala to revive the Upper Trishuli 1-216 megawatt hydropower project, which
is licensed to Nepal Watwe Energy Development Company. Ministry of Energy had
declared disqualified and cancelled the licence of that company July 5 just one
month before. Because the company could not complete the given tasks within the
given time period 5 years according to the agreement.
There are so many companies which are holding
licence and doing nothing to generate the power, but only looking the party to
sell the licence. In this case if govt. revives the licence of Nepal Water
Energy Development Company, Ministry of Energy could not take any action to
other licence holders also. Since the last 10 years govt. has issued the licences
of every remarkable river and water resources running down streams which are potential
to power generating. The licences are holding by some technocrats and
influencing persons who have back stopping of political leaders. On the other
hand foreign multinational companies also have great interest to play the role
for licensing and construction award on their interest. So it is openly can
said that Nepal is being a platform and experimental spot to play water
resources politics. Since 60's decade national and international powers are
playing game over the head of poor Nepalese people on the name of water
resources. On the same category a Australian based multinational company SMEC
hold the licence of West Seti Hydro project for 16 years but did nothing and
last year govt. cancelled the licence. Now again SMEC is trying to inter in the
hydro power sector of Nepal. Next World Bank also is not playing positive role.
It is always playing negative role for the hydropower development sector of
Nepal. Time to time World Bank gives pressure to the govt. to increase the rate
of electricity. Why World Bank is playing politics upon the poverty of Nepalese
People? When the government becomes weak World Bank
comes active in Nepal. In this crucial time also World Bank and SMEC can play
for their interest as the result the country would face the loadsheding problem
for infinite days of coming. Govt. should take bold steps on long national
interest being far sited. http://www.facebook.com/ghimireip@yahoo.com
